On 02/06/25, I took my car in to Meineke in Northlake because my steering was off and making noise. After inspection Charles told me there were 4 major issues and 3 minor ones. Charles showed me and explained to me that if these issues weren't addressed that it could cause my rack and pinion to go out and that damage to my engine would costs upwards of $3000-$5000. MAJOR ISSUES: both engine valve cover gaskets, power steering pump, front passenger side CV axle and front passenger tie rod (tie rod end and suspension stabilizer bar link) He even showed me that my tensioner belt was loose and would be fixed. MINOR ISSUES: needs back brake pads, air filter and new battery. I told him to fix all 4 major issues and we'll worry about the other minor issues later, my cost $1928.48. Fast forward to 03/10/25, barely a month later, my car starts to make the same noise as before and my steering is off again. I take it back to Meineke but this time Jamal is at the desk. We do ANOTHER inspection but this time there are MORE things wrong with my car!!! NOW there are 12 issues. MAJOR ISSUES: passenger side CV axle, shocks and struts, rack and pinion (on inspection report it says that it's good, but on estimated cost it's listed as $2474. 62) and drive belt tensioner. MINOR ISSUES: wheel alignment, tensioner belt, brake pads front AND back, tires, air filter, power steering and transmission fluid and new battery. Jamal took me back to my car and told me with a straight face that the major damage happened because my drive tensioner pulley locked up (while he was pulling on my loose tensioner belt) and cause the CV axle to go out AGAIN, but I also need to repair my drive belt tensioner AND my rack and pinion cost $3190.05. I'm not a rocket scientist but: 1. if my tensioner pulley locked, wouldn't my belt brake?!? It's not broken. 2. If my rack and pinion needs to be fixed, why is it NOT listed on the inspection report as bad?!? 3. If a tensioner pulley could cause the CV axle, shocks and struts and all the other things to go out, why wasn't that addressed and fixed the first time?!? It's like fixing the faucet without fixing the leak underneath!!! Jamal looked me right in my face and told me "WE CAN'T EVEN HONOR YOUR WARRANTY UNTIL YOU GET THE DRIVE BELT TENSIONER AND RACK AND PINION FIXED". Did he just tell my that he's holding my warranty hostage until I spend 3200 more dollars??? I paid almost $2000 on repairs to prevent this from happening!!! These guys either didn't fix my car the first time or they didn't fix it correctly and now they want ME to pay for their mistake. UNACCEPTABLE!!! #SURETYBOND
