"Thanks, Meineke."
Comments From Meineke Customers in the Western United
States
I just wanted to take a moment to let you know how grateful I am
to the folks at the Meineke on Washinton Blvd in Ogden, UT for going
above and beyond to help us out when our car broke down. We were
stranded on our trip hundreds of miles from home, and it was past
closing time on a Friday night. I'd just had some other work done
on my car at my local Meineke in Lake Oswego, OR before the trip
and had been pleased, so we automatically called 411 to ask for
the nearest Meineke. We were told that the mechanics had had a rough
day and that the shop had actually closed a half hour ago, but given
our predicament they were not only kind enough to give us a phone
number for a good towing company and keep the doors open for us
but to also give us a ride to our hotel, fix our car first thing
in the morning (turns out it was the fuel pump) and then give us
a ride back to pick it up. This kind of service is rare, and it
was much appreciated. I don't know what we'd have done if we hadn't
have called Meineke, but I'm glad we did, and now I know who to
call in the future. I hope there is some way to reward this shop
for their way-beyond-the-call-of-duty customer service because they
deserve it. Did I mention that they did all of this with a smile?
Thank you, Meineke! Sincerely, Maggie

Jim and his wife are the most honest people around and
really do give Meineke a good name! Again we went there for my
husband's brakes on his truck and were amazed at how honest the
staff
was and how quickly the work was done! I will not take our cars
anywhere else.

The service there is excellent! The labor was priced fair. The
manager always greets me and calls me by my first name. Very friendly
people who work there. I will be a returning customer, and share
my great experience with others! Thank you so much! Brett Bennett

I just wanted to thank "Dave" who helped me out on my
brake job on Friday. His customer service was awesome and the overall
service was fast and affordable. Please pass the word along that
he did a superb job and I will come back for a new muffler and/or
any other car services that I may need. Thanks again for everything.

I had taken my vehicle a Meineke store to get a second opinion
on a brake estimate I had gotten from another national chain. I
purchased my tires at this business and when getting a free tire
rotation, they stated I needed $900 worth of brake replacement /repair.
I took my car to Richard Kallas at the Prater store in Sparks. He
and his mechanics looked at the brakes and advised me they were
still within 45% -50% of factory tolerances and no service was required
at this time. You have just gained a customer for future automotive
work. My thanks to Richard Kallas and the store in Sparks NV! Honest
and pleasant! Mike Lander PS, I sent another email to the national
chain, advising them of my experience with them and letting them
know all my future work will be done at Meineke...

I am writting to say to Ryan Reddick and the staff of the Meineke
in Columbia, MO a great big THANKS. I am a single women who is, well, who is
ignorant when it comes to car maint. I needed some big work done on my car.
All of my questions, no matter how stupid or trivial, were all handled appropriately;
and I never felt talked down to like some mech. will. They completed all the
work in less than 48 hours with out comprimising the quality of work. I will
be recomending to all of my friends to come and have their repairs handled at
Meineke with Ryan and his staff. Again thank you for treating me with the utmost
respect and making sure that me and my car get the best care out there. Cocoa

I would like to compliment this meineke store on their efficiency
and repair of my exhaust system. I wrote a while ago in regards to this new
flowmaster and pipe setup and wasn't pleased. Perhaps, I should have gone back
to the store and voiced my opinion, but at the time, I felt a letter would best
explain my feelings. They got back to me and not only repaired my exhaust problems,
but did it in a very timely and courteous manner. I am so pleased, and feel
I got my moneys worth, that I felt like letting you know. This is the quality
and quick response that keeps customers happy. Therefore, I would like to ask
that you please disregard any previous derogatory email in regards to this subject
and store. I am a pleased customer and will continue to support meineke. Sincerely,
A meineke customer

I wanted to write to Meineke, not just the Cheyenne office, and
give my thanks for the unsurpassed customer service and automotive work I had
done recently. I found myself about 100 miles away from Cheyenne, Wyoming with
a near seized left front CV joint. I was lucky enough to get the car into a
shop in Sydney, Nebraska and figure out what the problem was but knowone had
the part that I needed, at least not till that Monday or Tuesday (it was Saturday).
So basically I thought I was out of luck. I made a call to my AAA representative
and had her call some shops in Cheyenne to see if anyone could help me out.
I figured that it was a long shot seeing as how it was Saturday and now approaching
1:00pm, which meant that most shops would be closed for the weekend. Fortunately
the AAA rep called Meineke. Not only were they open till 6:00 pm on a Saturday
but they were going to look for the part. I called the office about 15 minutes
later and talked to Dave (unfortunately I don't know his last name, possibly
Dave G.) Dave had found the part and at that very moment was signing for it.
I already felt 1,000 times better. Dave said come on by and they would take
care of us. A few hours later we arrived and Dave immediatly took the car in
and started working on it. Before I even arrived there I knew that I was going
to the right place. Even Dave's attitude on the phone was more than I could
have hoped for, positive, hopeful and most of all willing to do what it took
to get us back on the road that day. Did I forget to say I was driving cross
country to Washington from New Hampshire? After only one hour the repair was
done and Dave walked me through what had been done and why the car had been
having problems. With out a doubt Dave was the kindest, easiest, and most explanatory
mechanic I have ever dealt with. Well long story short, I left there feeling
completely confident in the work done on my vehicle and was wishing that Dave
was my home town mechanic. Then to top it all off Dave pointed out that the
warranty extended to not just his shop but all Meineke shops. I was blown away.
If there were any problems, which I new there wouldn't be, meineke would stand
behing the work. Needless to say Dave has won me over as a Meineke customer
for life. Thank you Meineke, but especially thank you to Dave at the Cheyenne,
Wyoming office.
Sincerly, Ryan Breault satisfied customer

satisfied with the work that cost $40!! They run a great shop, excellent work,
and take pride in their work. Jake, takes care of me everytime I walk in the
door. Just wanted to Thank the entire crew in Castle Rock. Keep up the GREAT

It seems these days that a good customer service is very hard
to find. I have had retail experience and always strived to provide diplomacy,
tact and kindness to customers, so when it is applied to me, it does not go
unnoticed.
This moth (August 2003) the Salem, Oregon, Market Street,
Meineke, put a heater core and thermostat in my car. Within a few days
a problem developed which I thought was to do with the work that Meineke
had done. I drove my car in and I was given immediate outstanding service.
All employees treated me courteously and they fixed the problem without
charge. We have had other family cars serviced by Meineke and be assured
they can count on future business with us.

I drove my truck up to Seattle as I had a family business to take care
of due to my mother illness, and her moving into a health care facility.
The truck developed a noise coming from the exhaust system which I thought
might be a muffler problem. As I am originally from Seattle and had been
to Meineke years ago that’s where I went for service. A young man
by the name of Dennis waited on my sister and I and told us to leave the
truck and to call back in an hour to hear what the problem was. I was
expecting the worst and hoping that it might just be a loose bolt.
I called back and Dennis told me that the truck was ready. He looked everything
over and the problem was a loose bolt or nut which he had tightened. I
picked the truck up and was further surprised to learn that there was
"no charge". I think today it is rare to find such honesty and
professionalism in the business world. I don't know if it is only that
specific dealer, a great employee or your business philosophy but it certainly
works. I will definitively seek out your car care centers if I have a
problem. Thank you and please think Dennis.

Steve and his crew went the extra mile to correct an over heating problem.
Words will not do justice to how hard they worked to fix the trouble.
Time was critical due to a long drive coming up to the heat of Calif.
Needless to say the 1400-mile trip was a success!! Thanks again to Steve
and his hardworking crew.

I went in to get my brakes done, and they actually took time to show
me that I actually didn't need pads. I've taken my car to the Ford dealer
for service before and they don't take time to show the customer what
is going on, maybe in hopes of doing a service that really may not be
needed. So I really appreciate that your employees took the time to do
this instead of charging me for a service that I really didn't need. I
actually ended up getting some of my fluids that needed to be flushed
done.
Thanks you!

I am a graduate student living on financial aid, and drive an old car
with 170,500 miles on it. Needless to say, I rely on having a mechanic
I can trust. I am so very grateful for having found Chris Carlson and
Dave at Meineke. They are the best car care company I have found. They
have among other jobs, fixed my windshield wiper motor (with rain in the
Pacific Northwest), that is an essential on a car. They have installed
exhaust piping; total front brakes, and struts all around. And they also
educated me about WHY I need struts. They keep my oil changed frequently.
If they say I need something... I can trust them. And I have it done.
They are among my favorite people. Please, recognize Chris Carlson and
the wonderful service they extend to customers, especially me.
Thank you,
Mr. Alberta Handwerk

"Last month on a trip from Eureka to Sebastopol, my friend's
car lost a tail pipe on the freeway just north of Windsor. While we were
waiting for a tow car to respond we telephoned Meineke in Santa Rosa to
inquire if they had the right muffler / tail pipe and could they fix it
while we waited? They assured us we would be in / out in a short time.
The tow truck driver was able to remove the dragging parts, and we were
able to drive into Santa Rosa to Meineke. Mr. Chiaravalle met us and inspected
the car. My friend had forgotten that her muffler had been replaced at
Midas in 1994. Mr. Chiaravalle advised her it was a Midas muffler and
asked if she wished to go to Midas for a free replacement. She declined
and requested that he do the repairs. At that point, he stated he would
honor the Midas guarantee and replace that part free. We couldn't believe
our luck in meeting an honest man! Plus one that would willingly go beyond
the call of duty. Within one hour, we were on our way, with a new muffler
/ tailpipe assembly, full of coffee, candy, and a wonderful feeling about
our fellow man. We told all the people we met about this "honest man"
and how he had helped us."

"It is so rare to meet kind respectful people these days and I wanted
to thank (the Santa Rosa, CA shop) for going the extra mile to make me
feel important. You took me to work (in class) and I laughed and
enjoyed myself. My car runs great and I made new friends.

I'm writing to commend Meineke Discount Mufflers on the
quality of its mufflers, labor and, especially, its customer service.
Ten years ago, my father took my car to a Meineke franchise in San Diego,
CA. He had the muffler and other necessary components replaced. He bought
a muffler with a lifetime warrantee. The time has come to replace the
muffler. Unfortunately, I now live on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. As
you know, Meineke has no franchises in this state.
When I called customer service, I received the "party line",
which dictated that only Meineke employees, in a Meineke shop, could honor
the warrantee. Noting the company's address on my receipt, I decided to
wait until my annual holiday visit to my sister in Charlotte, NC.
The day after Christmas, I visited your corporate office. When I walked
out of the elevator, I was greeted with typical Southern hospitality by
the receptionist. Upon request, I was introduced to Janet Laver and Eve
Cooper. I stated my case to them. As expected, I did not receive any promises.
However, I did receive an offer to look into a creative solution to the
problem.
Within four hours, I received a telephone call with instructions to contact
Mr. Anthony Webb, at your 6447-A East Independence Blvd. store. Mr. Webb
provided me with friendly, entertaining service and a replacement muffler,
with the understanding that I must fund the labor and other non-warrantee
parts, as expected.
I heard of a study indicating that on average, businesses spend seven
times more money to win back a dissatisfied customer than they would to
keep that same customer. In this case that number is immeasurably higher.
25 years ago, Radio Shack gave me poor customer service. About the same
time period, on a previous car, I witnessed a Midas employee's poor installation
practice. He had cut a pipe one inch too short. Rather than replacing
the pipe with one of the correct length, he placed undue stress on the
exhaust system hangar and other components. To this day, I avoid those
companies whenever possible.
Obviously, I haven't forgotten those events. I will not forget future
encounters. I maintain countless contacts in southern California. I have
already begun spreading the word about Meineke's customer service. The
simple replacement of the muffler will be more than worth its cost. Creativity
in customer service is worth more than its cost. Janet, Eve and Anthony
are priceless assets to your company.

"I'd like to tell you about the pleasant experience
I had at the Grand Junction, CO Meineke shop. I purchased a muffler from
that location in 1997. I returned there on January 16, 2001 to have the
muffler checked and it was replaced - free of charge because of your lifetime
nationwide guarantee. This was the most hassle-free, friendly and professional
experience I have ever had dealing with a car repair, and I have let lots
of my friends know about this. Thank you."

"I went to your store on 4020 N. 75th Avenue (Phoenix,
AZ). Wade was, I believe, the manager. He was very professional and friendly
and honest. I had thought I needed new brake shoes, I did not, they were
just dirty and needed to be adjusted. It is nice to know Meineke provides
honest people who know what they are doing. He went out of his way, and
also his assistant. I needed 2 lug nuts and they made sure I went to a
local discount tire to have it fixed, as the materials were not available
there. I was taken care of very well. I wanted to pass this on to you,
as I feel he deserves recognition. Thanks!"

"I
had my vehicle inspected at the (Chandler, AZ) shop. The service people
took my vehicle in right away for a suspected exhaust leak. Within a few

the vehicle was repaired to my satisfaction! The service men that waited
on me were very professional and kept me up to date on what was going
on and the costs were, I thought, reasonable!! I was impressed and will

"I found the service at (the Boulder. CO) Meineke exceptionally
good. I needed a new master cylinder. The manager listened to what I had
to say and the staff fixed the problem. They did not try to sell me anything
I did not want. This is important to me when I am dealing with auto repair.
I had just taken the car out of another garage because 1) it took them
two days longer to look at the car than they had originally told me, 2)
when they did look at the car, and I called to find out the problem ,
they ran down a laundry list of things that could be improved on the car,
only one of which was related to the symptom I had described, and 3) they
wanted to charge me a full $100 more than what Meineke charged me for
the same job. Unfortunately, this seems to be the norm in the auto repair
industry today. It is good to see that for brakes and exhaust, I can count
on my local Meineke dealer to treat me fairly.
The reason I am writing is to express my gratitude towards the honest
service that I received in an industry that is unfortunately riddled with
thieves (in my opinion). From my experience, the Boulder shop is a model
of what is to be done to right this industry. They offered:
- Timely service
- An honest assessment of the problem. The car I had in is 28 years
old. I know it was not in perfect condition, but the problem I had
(leaky brake fluid system, causing car to not stop) was not related
to 95% of the things that the other shop told me were wrong. Furthermore,
had I not known (albeit minimally) anything about how a car works,
I may have been misled by that other shop to believe that a calcified
radiator, leaky valve gasket, unbalanced tires, etc., had anything
to do with a car that would not stop when you pressed on the brake
pedal.
- Reasonable price
- Competent technicians (this is actually the second time I had been
to the shop and both jobs were done competently)
- Respectful service (the manager was very nice)
Anyway, if there are any awards the corporate office gives to local shops,
this one deserves one.
Thanks."

"I love these guys! I have been going to this Meineke since I moved here 9 years ago. They do great work, they're very thorough and friendly and I recommend them to everyone I know. They have had ample opportunity to take advantage of me and never have. They are the only auto shop I've been to in my life that I feel completely confident with their diagnosis of my vehicle.
