I am pleased to write to the Corporate Office of Meineke and tell you about the great help and care provided to me by Tasha Irwin and her crew at the Newburgh Car Care Center. I was returning to my University from a summer's archaeological excavations at a site in New York last August. My old Ford Ranger lost its clutch almost as soon as I headed west on the interstate highway. The truck was loaded down with archaeological gear and I was on a tight deadline to return for the start of the fall semester. I also had a passenger to drop off in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. From the side of the road, I began to call local shops. Most of them would not even work on a truck that was over 15 years old and more than 300,000 miles. My passenger and I were stranded with no cash, 1200 miles from home, carrying scientific data and equipment. The situation was a disaster! The tow truck driver arrived on the roadside and he began taking us to the Ford dealer, who had very reluctantly agreed to look at my rig. The driver gave us an honest assessment of the situation- that we should go to Meineke. We took his advice and he towed us to Tasha's place. She agreed to fix the clutch. But her crew went way beyond that simple task. In less than 24 hours, Tasha's people pulled out my clutch, found the needed parts, completed the repair, and had me back on the road by 6pm the next day. I dropped of my passenger, delivered the gear and project materials, and arrived in plenty of time to give the "Welcome to University" lecture to all the newly arrived 1st year students in orientation. Ms. Irwin's staff worked extra hours and really pulled through for me in my crisis. They were honest about their work and clearly went above-and-beyond their regular duties to get me back on the road. I'm sorry that I've been so delayed in relaying my story, but the academic year just concluded here and I'm taking this time to catch up on my belated correspondence.
